Experience Live Weather Through Our Network
Our Live Weather Camera Network offers an essential platform delivering live visual weather data. We serve meteorologists, media, and emergency services by providing accurate, real-time sky and weather camera streams, supporting informed decisions and timely responses.
We use live sky camera feeds from volunteers all across our service area to provide our audience with real-time views of the sky. These feeds allow us to share the latest weather events with our viewers.
The meteorologists and weather professionals in our communities have a wide variety of tools to assist them in their forecasts and severe-weather monitoring. Weather radar, satellite imagery, observation aircraft, computer modeling, and other tools, however, are not without their limitations. These limitations are most concerning when severe storms are present. In such cases, trained weather spotters on the ground are a vital asset in determining when (or if) public warnings should be issued.
These networks of weather spotters, (who are almost always volunteers), can be stretched pretty thin during active severe conditions. In many rural areas, there may be no trained spotters at all. Our network serves to augment the work done by the spotters, and provide valuable real-time data to those who need it the most. Skywatch cameras can do the job where conditions are too hazardous for direct human observation as well.
All of our source feeds are provided on a volunteer basis by individuals and businesses who wish to serve their community. We are always looking for more volunteers to host skywatch cameras. The value to your community can be immense. See the “FAQ” section on this site for more information on becoming a volunteer.
All of our incoming livestreams are transcoded into a single standard stream which can be viewed on any modern web browser. Using our network, it is no longer necessary to use various apps, codecs, viewers, or proprietary software to access the streaming content. This standardized format allows the viewer to quickly and easily find the desired stream and immediately begin analyzing it. Our sub-second streaming protocol ensures that each video feed is presented in real-time. All of our streams are available 24 hours a day.
The Live Weather Camera Network is based in West-Central Missouri, and it is this area where we are initially most concentrated on. Following this launch of the network, we anticipate a rapid expansion into other areas of the Midwest and beyond. Nevertheless, we will accept volunteers and their skycams from other USA locations when server resources are available.
The Live Weather Camera Network does not receive any funding from Government or public sources. We gratefully accept private donations, and sponsorships. Please contact us if you wish to support us in this endevor.
